Date: 18 June 2009
Author: RPSV

23 to 26 July will see the holding of Melbourne’s 13th national philatelic exhibition, on this occasion at the Melbourne Park Function Centre. The event commemorates 200 years of the Post Office in Australia and is this nation’s largest national exhibition since 1989. Over 40 stamp dealers will be in attendance and on display will be almost 800 frames of philatelic material including extracts from Australia Post’s archives.

The Society’s participation in the exhibition is foremost. Not only are the majority of the organising committee and judging team members of the Royal of Victoria, but the Society has also contributed three awards for exhibitors and will be represented by a stand at the exhibition. At 7.30pm on Thursday 23 July at Purves House, the President will host a small reception for members, their guests and invited exhibition personnel. Australia Post will provide the evening’s display, this being selected extracts from their Chapman collection acquisition. Richard Breckon will represent the Post Office during the evening, with Ray Chapman also being in attendance to provide a brief introduction.
